Certification services for the new EU Battery Regulation

• The European Commission has proposed mandatory third-party verification through a notified body, and Kiwa will be the notified body for the new requirements.。

  • Battery CE label

    Effective August 18, 2024, manufacturers will be required to affix the CE marking to batteries prior to marketing, indicating compliance with EU safety, health and environmental protection standards.
  • Battery Passport

    Starting February 18, 2027, LMTs, EVs and industrial batteries over 2 kWh must register for a battery passport with an identifying QR code and CE marking. The passport provides recycling operators with important data on battery handling instructions, health status and sustainability requirements.

The significance of the implementation of the new European battery regulations:

Extended Producer Responsibility:

• a detailed guide on extended producer responsibility and collection Portable and LMT target batteries, as batteries gradually increase recycling and recovery targets for specific raw materials.

Use of Battery Passports:

• starting in 2027, each LMT battery, industrial battery over 2 kWh, and electric vehicle battery must have a battery passport containing traceable information.

Safeguarding Consumer Rights:

• consumer-centered provisions allow end users to remove and replace all content, starting with portable appliance batteries in 2027.
